Slogstorm is a new band from North of Norway and they impressed me immensely during this years Inferno festival. I felt I just had to contact the band's spokesman 'Mortug', to set up an interview with Slogstorm. Luckily he agreed to answer some questions for you all! After reading this interview please go to their site and download their first demo! Especially the track 'Kald natt med draugen' is a masterpiece.

Will you start by giving us a short description of your playing style and a short band biography?

Sure thing. Our style is very variable. We try not to get stuck in one style only. However we will keep our feet inside the slow trashy metal style! We do alot of experimenting when we are rehearsing and the whole band got a say whenever something works out or not. The band was formed by Dauing and a former drummer back in 2003. It was basicly just an idea but became reality when Likfunn and Tage teamed up with them. They started writing tunes, rehearsed and did some gigs. A demo was recorded and entitled 'Svart Hav'. The promoting around the demo was laidback but it sold out quite quickly. However we didn't think the demo would reach as far as it has. Things started happening quite fast back in january this year, and see where we are now. I mean, we've just done a gig at the Inferno Festival 2005!

What do you want to accomplish with the band?

World domination! Hehe. Our goal is to reach an audience with our music. We've partially succeded this far. People seem to like what we do, and that is fuel for the band!

Your 2004 demo "Svart Hav" (Black Ocean) really impressed me. Did it attract any labels and how was the general response to it?

Well, some labels have been sniffing on us. But we haven't signed to anyone... yet! And the response has been all but great everywhere! Reviewers loves it, fans love it. WE love it! Haha. But giving us an opportunity to play at the Inferno really tells alot about how certain people has embraced the demo.

Are Slogstorm currently in writing mode and if so, will the new material be similar to Svart Hav?

Oh yes, we are in constant writing mode! We rehearsed two new songs this weekend. We try not to move so far away from the 'Svart Hav' style. We keep it trashy and heavy like on 'Svart Hav', but with a tiny taste of technical influences here and there. But not too much! Hehe. You see, we are currently three active songwriters in the band with different taste in music. Likfunn is the death metal guy, Tage is the trash metal guy and I'm the more melodic guy. This combanition makes a great soup of metal!

What inspires you to write music and how is Slogstorm's way of writing a tune?

I really don't know the inspiration. The music just floats through our hands when we touch our instruments. The way we work is quite simple: we sit down at home making riffs and presents them to the rest of the band.

Can you try to describe the lyrics for us? Will you always represent the fishermen? When will we see a song entitled 'Fisherman's friend'?

Haha. The day Dauing's throat suffers! The lyrics are dark and part humor. We hail Draugen and collect corpses at sea with him. We don't really sing about fishing, hehe. I just wrote a lyric called "Lempa på have", which basicly is about throwing the priest into the sea making him sink to Draugen's kingdom. We don't want him come rowing around in our fjord!

I witnessed your performance at Inferno Festival in Oslo in Easter and I enjoyed it immensley. How was it like playing for a bigger crowd than you normally do?

It was awesome! Seriously! We were an unknown band until february when we performed with Myrkskog in Oslo, and even that gig was great. We're not used to this kind of response to our music. There is no such metal crowd up here! And playing at Inferno was a dream come true! Seeing our name at the same poster with bands such as Morbid Angel was... weird! Now we just have to keep the ball rolling!

Speaking of concerts...Will you do more shows in the near future?

Yes, we are planning to do some gigs this summer. A tour in Norway is being worked on. This tour will be done with another great norwegian band. Combining our music with their will devastate everything! We will do gigs in most of the big cities around our great land. Also we will play some gigs with Blood Tsunami in may.

"Slogstorm", can you give us an explanation of that name?

Well, 'slog' is a norwegian word for "fish entrails". That should give you an idea!

What about Slogstorm merchandise? I would love to

wear a Slogstorm hoodie one day! ;)

We are selling t-shirts at the moment. We got sold out of certain sizes immediatly, but we still have some shirts left, which can be ordered from our website. We printed a limited amount of hoddies for the Inferno Festival. These also sold out!

Norway is really known for its black metal scene. Lately I've noticed the death metal scene is starting to picking up as well. We have bands like Slogstorm, She Said Destroy and Obliteration. What is your view on the curren Norwegian metal scene?

Well, thank Draugen for the norwegian metal scene! Where would we be today without bands such as Emperor, Mayhem and Darkthrone, just to name a few? And it's great to see new interesting everyday. I missed She Said Destroy at Inferno. John Dee was so packed with people that i didn't manage to get in! Zeenon also kicked butt! Also want to mention Taakeferd which represents the metal scene from the unknown parts of Norway... NORTH Norway!

Do you feel game to give us your top 5 albums released by Scandinavian Metal bands only?

Oh, that's a tough one! I love both extreme metal and heavy metal. So i just have to combine them in this list.

Emperor - In the nightside eclipse ("Inno A Satana" is the reason i got into black metal!)
Vintersorg - Ödemarkens son
Conception - Parallel minds
Kamelot - Karma
Immortal - All albums!

Thanks a ton for answering these questions. Any final remarks to the readers of Scandinavian Metal webzine?

As we are out of demos we now have released our demo in mp3's at Slogstorm. The quality is superb encoded

with LAME VBR. So go get it for free! Hyll Draugen!
