7"Rockers an upcoming rock band from Denmark has been interrogated by AvNatten, if you didn't know a thing about the band before you saw this header, then you'd know what there is to know when you are done reading the interview, enjoy!

Hello! Please introduce yourself and tell us what role you have in 7"Rockers!

My name is Mickey Brown and I'm the lead singer in 7"Rockers. I write all the songs in the band. I'm also one of the original founders of the band along with Lasse and Mr. Burn.

Can you introduce the rest of the band and tell us their strong and weak points?

The rest of the band contains of Pran on leadguitar, Mr. Burn plays the bass, Thomas is rhythm guitarist and Lasse is the drummer of 7"Rockers. Their strong parts are definitely that they all have got what it takes. The ambition to become one of the world's greatest rock bands, the talent to get there and the humour and strength it takes on the journey to receive our united goal. We are in this together, as a team, as friends and we're family not by blood but by choice! Weak points… what do you mean? ;)

Can you give us a brief history of the band? Have there been any lineup or directional changes throughout the years?

7"Rockers was formed back in 2002 and was founded by me and Michael (he is no longer in the band). The band's mission was like so many other bands, to conquer the world with our rock n' roll music. We were serious about the music and had no doubt that we would be BIG in the future. A couple of years went by and the band had grew stronger, played lots of gigs around the country, gathered more and more fans from show to show… but something went wrong along with the progress... Maybe we had just grown apart, going in different directions or… I don't know what happened. Anyway the band decided to stop completely in late 2005. The music just wasn't fun anymore and the "fire" had gone out.

I started playing and gigging with my acoustic material and found the "lust" for music once again. I asked Mr. Burn and Lasse for help with the recording of my acoustic album. In this process we found the joy of playing together once again and decided to put start over. A new band but with the same name due to the fact that both Mr. Burn and I have got tattoos saying 7"Rockers – not the logo but artistic forms of the name. The three of us started to search for 2 new guitarists to join the line up. I got in contact with Pran through an ad on the internet and we agreed to meet at show at Stengade 30. (venue in Copenhagen) early 2006. The band playing that night was a Danish band called Raid. I knew the guitarist from Raid, Thomas, and told him that if he wanted to leave his band, he should come join 7"Rockers along with Pran. Pran went to a short audition at our rehearsal room, and we were simply blown away by his amazing skills on the guitar. A couple of weeks later Thomas left Raid and joined 7"Rockers. This was the start of the new 7"Rockers and the line-up has ever since been as you see it today.

Before 7"Rockers came to exist were any of you involved with other bands?

Way too many other bands to mention!! All of the guys in 7" have been playing for at least a decade and we have played in lots of different bands, but most importantly we all feel like we have finally found the right band: 7"Rockers!

7"Rockers is quite an original name, how did you come up wit it and decide that’s what the name of your band should be?

Back in the days of the "old" 7"Rockers we were discussing what our band should be called. We all came up with some suggestions and we picked the best name together. The name 7"Rockers are best explained if you separate the 7" from the rockers part. 7" makes you think of the days where, when you picked up the latest maxi singles from your favourite band, it would be either a 7" or a 12" vinyl... And there where something fucking cool about those old singles! – So therefore, the 7" part. The rockers part is due to the fact that the word itself sounds "awesome". It makes you think: rock music, Harley Davidson, sex, drugs and rock n' roll and all of that shit!

The bands name makes one think of vinyl. Is it a correct assumption that you guys dig albums on vinyl?

Yes that is correct, as I mentioned before. Now a days its just lovely to look at the old "big" vinyl albums and just flow away while listening to the tunes from the vinyl.

It's obvious that Guns N' Roses have been an influence on you guys as a band, what other bands have had an impact? Also what bands/musicians have influenced you personally?

A lot of different bands actually... Due to the fact that we, in the band, are so different and have various musical backgrounds, we like many different kinds of music. For instant Thomas is very into AlterBridge (former Creed) and mainly the American music scene. Pran is a diehard fan of Joe Perry (guitarist of Aerosmith) and that may have influenced his guitar style. Mr. Burn is more or less the hard rocker in the band 'cos he mostly like bands like H-Blox, Rage Against The Machine etc. Lasse is really influenced by Matt Sorum of Velvet Revolver (and old Guns N' Roses) and Tico Torres of Jon Bon Jovi for instance. I am influenced by all kinds of music like the rest of the band, but I also really like Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, David Bowie etc.

You have a very distinct voice, how long have you been a rock vocalist and where do you draw your inspiration from?

I was actually pretty old when I picked up singing. Think I was 17 or 18 at the time. I actually didn't wanted to sing in public, but was forced to show the melody/song to the lead singers back in the old days. I became the leadsinger in a band called Oddballs back in '97 which I formed with Thomas (yes the same Thomas who joined 7"Rockers!) I should sing until we were able to find a singer who could suit our demands, but he never showed up! I have ever since then sung in every band I played in.

When 7"Rockers was on standby I found a new site of my singing skills and was font of the laidback singer/songwriter style where I find a lot of my inspiration for the music. For instance great artists such as Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, Noel Gallagher and Zakk Wylde.

In general both solo and in 7"Rockers I get the inspiration from everyday life. It can both be from my own life as well as it can be fiction inspired by different TV-shows, movies, the neighbours fighting.... Anything, you mention it.

What made you decide to be a rock musician? Are there any other genres that you enjoy?

Everybody wants to be a rockstar!... and that's the truth! It's just up to you to make your dreams come true and then a bit of talent. The guys in 7"Rockers are meant to be rockstars, just look at us on stage and you'll see what I mean.

How does the music scene in Denmark now differ from the scene you grew up listening to? What are your favorite DK bands?

Nowadays it's very hard getting through the massive variety of bands in the music scene. There are a lot more bands now than 15-20 years ago. The fact that everybody can make a demo in their own living room these days makes it hard to cut through. 7"Rockers sets the different by being one hell of a live-band where our enthusiasm and professional skills really shows. This is where a lot of ”young” bands can’t keep up. Back when we were teenagers we listened to Dizzy Mizz Lizzy, Kashmir, Psycked Up Janis and DAD... Those were the Danish heroes back then. If we should point out some great "major" signed bands in DK at the moment it would be Magtens Korridorer, VolBeat, Die Dümme Dänen, Powderhog and of course still DAD.  But there are many great bands on their way up to stardom just like us... for instance I can mention OffLand, The Pickup, clubhell, CrisGray band etc. There are so many.

Can you guide us through the writing process of your songs? Do you feel that there has to be a special element in each song before they can be a 7"Rockers track? What is that element and what does it mean to the band?

The writing process is pretty easy to explain. I write a song, brings it to rehearsal with the band and if the song "clicks" off well and the other guys like it, then it’s a 7"Rockers song! I actually never write a whole song… just the catch-line, a verse and a chorus and if it works out the 7"Rockers-way, then I finish it. Before the song can be a real 7"Rockers song everybody in the band gives it a twist in their own direction and that is what makes the songs so great.

You are going to be releasing a video for 'Brand New Thing', what was it like to be able to create your first video?

It was a great feeling! Funny but still very hard. It was amazing how much effort everybody (beside the band) put in to it. The producer, the makeup artists, the actors... everybody was just great and did a fantastic job.

Was the recording of the video a long and difficult process? Who was the director and what can we expect to see in the video?

It has been real long since it has been a while since we did the recording (both visual and sound). It's soon to be finished but it has got to be complete before we release it. Don't want to compromise on something so important and the director, Kristian Sønderby, has really made an amazing result already, he's really great. You can expect to see our rock n' roll spirits made visual. Meaning, it contains what’s really us. It also has got a story within it, it's not just another "introducing a band"-video.

Can you give us some info on the things the band has in store for this year?

Yeah! A lot of concerts (we're going to tour Sweden and Denmark), and obviously the video. On top of that we hope to record some new songs, and … well, we're just gonna rock everybody's world ;)

What are your hopes and dreams for the future of the band?

WORLD DOMINATION!!!!!

When can we expect a full length album? Do you currently have a record label or some other means to release your music?

7"Rockers are still at this moment self financed. We would really love to record a full length album, but we don't have the money for it yet. No, no record label at the time being but we're getting there. Can't really predict the future, but our manager is working constantly on the subject. It has got to be the right label for US though!

Have you played many live shows? What's the crowd's reaction to the music?

Yes we have! The band in this line up has approximately played 50 gigs within the last year and we are booked for 20-25 shows already for 2007... and still counting. We always get great response from the crowd, after shows there's always people coming up to us to chat and give us compliments, it's really great... makes it all worth it! It's breathtaking at times!

Thank you for your time, is there anything else that you would like to add?

You're welcome, thank you for doing this interview. I guess all I have left to say to anybody reading this: Come see us out there, we promise you one hell of a live show, and check us out at www.7inchrockers.com in the meantime. Cheers!
