Melted is Danish modern metal band, fusing together a lot of different metal styles, with hardcore being the dominant style. The band is getting quite unhurt through their neckbreaking extravaganza on their second album "Kill The Romantics", which is being released this very day. The album is being released on their own newly found label RomanSick. I got in touch with vocalist Mackack and got a little chat about Melted's music and where they find their drive. Besides Mackack, the band consists of drummer Ulf Scott, guitarist and vocalist Kasper Pilemand and last but not least do we have Glenn Rottland on bass and samples.

Hi there, will you please start off by introducing yourself?

My name is Mackack and I am the lead singer/ screamer in Melted.

How did Melted end up with the sound and special style of metal that you are practicing?

The sound and style is a collaboration of various musical genres, where each member contributes with input; which stems from his particular musical background; for instance, jazz, death metal, and hardcore.

How do you in the band work when you write music?

It's collaboration, but usually a member introduces a couple of basic riffs to a new song during rehearsal, which each member then interprets. And gradually new ideas are introduced as we go along.

Who are the main songwriters in the band?

Ulf is the most productive songwriter in the band, but we all write songs.

What is your mission with the band?

I don't know if the band has a mission as such, maybe by becoming a household name.

What do you wish to tell with your music?

We try to express extracts of various emotions; musically and lyrically.

What do you see as the most important features in a song (e.g. groove, melody etc…) and why?

One thing is nothing without the other, they are all equally important in a song; sort of a symbiotic relationship.

Where do you find inspiration for your music?

In our daily lives, the world around us, repressed emotions, etc.

Can you pull out 3 bands and 3 songs that have meant a lot to the way you make music and for the sound of Melted?

That's a hard one! It's impossible to single out 3 bands or 3 songs, because we are continually inspired by different kinds of music.

Let's turn to the lyrical side of Melted, who is the man behind the lyrics?

I primarily write the lyrics, but we all pitched in on this album.

Which topics do the lyrics on the new album touch and do you have a message with the lyrics?

There is always a message! Some of the themes on this album would be love, hate, betrayal, not staying true to your beliefs, etc.

Where is the inspiration for the lyrics found?

Most of our inspiration is found in our daily lives.

How important are the lyrics compared to the music?

They are equally important.

You are right now ready with your second full length album "Kill The Romantics", how do you feel about the album?

I think it's the best work we have done so far. It has also been the most musically challenging album, for us, to date. But it's been great working with Daniel Bergstrand, who has also produced In Flames, Soilwork and Raised Fist.

How is the new album compared to your earlier material?

The music is more dynamically versatile, in the sense that it is more melodious and aggressive.

How has "Kill The Romantics" so far been received?

Everyone who has heard it so far has been blown away. They think it's our best work ever.

What do you expect of it?

World domination! Just kidding. We hope that this album will put Melted on the "musical" world map.

What would you like to accomplish with your music?

We wish to provide the fans with great music. We also hope that the album becomes an "eye-opening" experience among the more conservative metal listeners.

What are your thoughts behind the album title "Kill The Romantics" and what does it symbolize?

The title symbolizes a progressive point of view. In other words, fuck the old train of thought! Bring on the new shit.

Let's take the question I'm sure everybody else also have asked, how did you end up with the cover version of Backstreet Boys' 'Everybody (Backstreet's Back)' on the album?

We are music lovers, be it metal, pop, rock, hip hop, what ever, and 'Everybody' is one of the best pop songs ever written, so why the hell not? We love this song.

You have released "Kill The Romantics" on your own label RomanSick, why did you choose to do it like that?

After almost two years without a record deal, we decided to release the album on our own label. You know the mantra; if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.

How did you end up with the name RomanSick, and will you only release Melted material on the label, or have you considered taking in other bands as well?

The name just popped up during rehearsal and it sounded cool. And yes, we have considered signing other bands to our label.

How important is it to perform live for Melted?

It's what we do best. Melted is a live band and we love making albums, but nothing beats a live performance.

Are you soon off to tour Denmark and when will we see you hit Aalborg?

We expect to tour Denmark in autumn 2006 and spring 2007, and we will most definitely perform in Aalborg.

How do you look upon the future of Melted and what can your fans expect of you?

We are just getting started, so the fans can expect a lot of new albums and more live performances.

Will you share your 5 all time favourite albums with the readers of Nocturnal Horde?

I can't speak for the rest of the band, but I can give you my top 5:

Sick Of It All - Scratch The Surface
Coheed And Cambria - Second Stage Turbine Blade
Zao – Where Blood And Fire Bring Rest
Neurosis – Enemy Of The Sun
Botch – We Are The Romans

Thanks a ton for answering my questions, if you have anything to add, feel free to add it now!
