The maniacal Swedish chainsaw-infested black/thrash armageddon-squad Bestial Mockery, consisting of vocalist Master Motorsåg, guitarist Doomanfanger, guitarist Ted Bundy, bassist DevilPig and drummer Warslaughter, is now ready with their new full length album "Gospel Of The Insane", released by Osmose Productions. Yet an album filled with hate and disgust and raw and aggressive metal! To find out what was going on in the world of Bestial Mockery, I hooked up with Warslaughter and got a good chat about the new album, the prior, how the band makes it music, the current muhammad crisis and what to expect of the future.

Hails, how is the winter treating you up in Sweden?

We haven't had a proper winter in southern Sweden in a decade or so due to global warming or whatever, but this year's winter has been as it used to be. Not that cold, but a lot of snow. I must say I like it, but it's beginning to get boring now.

Will you please start off by introducing yourself and tell us how you ended up on the path of crushing chainsaw-infested black/thrash metal?

Ok, will do. I'm Warslaughter, drummer of Bestial Mockery. I ended up here due to the disease I was exposed to at a young age, namely metal! I got into the rawer stuff via Possessed, Slayer, Exumer, Bathory, Cryptic Slaughter, and then got into black metal and death metal. I'm possessed by the Devil's music and there's no other path for me to travel than straight to Hell!

A small introduction of the rest of the band, together with a bit about their strong and weak sides will be great as well!

The rest of the band consists of Master Motorsåg (Strong side: dedication, eternal devotion. Weak side: fucked-up physics.), Devilpig (Strong side: total mania. Weak side: too many friends.), Doomanfanger (Strong side: great riffmaker, huge dick. Weak side: forgetful, lazy.), and Ted Bundy (Strong side: great riffmaker, idiot. Weak side: pothead lifestyle.). Together we're a bunch of assholes who make Fuck-Off-Black Metal, and who doesn't give a crap.

You are now ready with your new album "Gospel Of The Insane", a good and saying title, what do you wish to tell with the title and what are your thoughts behind it?

I can't exactly remember why we originally chose this title since it was a long time ago, but I think the line "…Gospel for the Insane" from the song 'Hell's Vociferation' sounded good and with a little modification it would be fitting title for a Bestial Mockery album. It is a title which rightly describes the idiomancy which is Bestial Mockery, nothing more really. We've tried to create an aura of insanity on the album, so the title works in relation with the music I'd say. But there's no extremely deep meaning behind it.

What is Bestial Mockery about lyrically and how important are the lyrics compared to the music?

Mostly our lyrics are about the classic black metal themes like Satan, death, destruction, Hell, evil, war etc. But there are also some lyrics dealing with more philosophical and close-to-life issues, but still related to classic black metal themes. Whatever the case, this is nothing we'll compromise with. I personally think that the lyrics are as important as the music. They're a part of the overall experience of the music, and cutting back on lyrics is as bad as cutting back on the guitars or something. It cannot be done.

Who writes the lyrics and where is the inspiration for them found?

Me and Master write about 50% of the lyrics each and has done so since the beginning. The lyrics are always written before the music and we have something like a "bank" of lyrics lying around. That's why many of the lyrics on the new album are rather old. Besides us, Devilpig has written two lyrics on the previous albums ('Crucified In Dirt' and 'Flash From A Razor') and Doomanfanger has written one on the new one ('Out From The Cold – Straight To Hell'). I can't really say where inspiration comes from. Ancient lore and myths, apocalyptic visions, dreams and nightmares, hate, and life in general I guess.

Which lyrical themes have you touched on "Gospel Of The Insane" and if you had to pull out 3 songs from the album, which 3 would you choose and what are the lyrics about on those 3 tracks?

We've touched about all of the above mentioned themes. There's no specific lyrical direction on the album connected to the title or so. If I had to choose three I have to choose three of my own, since they are the ones I can best describe. 'Father In heaven' is based on a nightmare I had. It's about graveyard blasphemy, black mass orgies and ritual sacrifices. Total blasphemy in essence. 'Black Metal Slaughter' is about apocalyptic war, the rise of Satan and the doom of christ. 'Slut-Fuck-Cult' is based on the theme of the witches' sabbath and the orgies of demonic feasts.

How do you in the band feel about the new album?

We're satisfied with it. More satisfied than we've ever been with a release actually. Everything was ok with the recording and shit like that. The only thing is that there are things missing in the CD booklet, like a verse of 'Slut-Fuck-Cult' and the entire lyric of 'Morbid Chainsaw Extermination'. This is probably due to the stress in getting the layout for it ready to send to pressing, and hopefully, if there is another printing we'll get to change that. But besides that, we're satisfied.

What do you expect from it and what would you like to accomplish with it?

I don't know. We didn't expect anything really. We're not looking for fame or shit like that. Just releasing our stuff and doing gigs once in a while is good enough for us. We've been loosing money for 11 years now doing this, so to even that out would be a nice thing, but it's nothing I really expect.

How have the press and your fans so far received the album?

So far so good. I've only read a few reviews on the internet and they have been good, and the fact that we're getting a lot of interviews must be a sign of people like it, but I suppose negative reactions will come as well eventually. To be perfectly honest, it doesn't matter much to me personally anyway. As I said above, we're not looking to change our situation radically and become the next Dimmu Borgir anyway, so a hail of praise or the opposite doesn't matter much. Either way, we’ll continue to wreak havoc with destructive fucking black metal.

Who is writing the music in Bestial Mockery?

Doomanfanger does most of the music, then comes Ted Bundy, and then to a lesser extent me and also Devilpig has done a little. Generally the noise is made in the rehearsal room and a song takes about one rehearsal to make. Lately though, Doomanfanger and Ted has done more music at home and so have I, and we put it together at rehearsal.

Where is the inspiration for the music found?

All sorts of good, classic thrash/black/death metal bands have inspired us, but also some old punk bands. It's nothing you really think of I guess.

Can you pull out 3 bands and 3 songs that have meant a lot to you, your way of thinking music and the sound of Bestial Mockery?

To me personally I would say Slayer – 'Evil Has No Boundaries', BoltThrower – 'In Battle There Is No Law' and Judas Priest – 'Sinner'. Obviously this is an impossible question to answer, but those three come to my mind right now. If I had answered this tomorrow I would probably have said three other ones. The three above are without doubt ultimate killer songs and they kick everything's ass! I can't say what the other members would say have influenced their way of thinking music. It's their problem.

Have any recent happenings or events influenced any of the music or lyrics on "Gospel Of The Insane"?

No, not really. We've got a lot of questions about if Master's incarceration into various mental institutions has influenced the album considering its title, but the answer is that it didn't. Most lyrics were done before the turn of the millennium, so they weren't affected by that at all. Neither was the music. The album was done during 6 months or less, and we didn't take into consideration any happenings going on outside of our vision when we did it.

What would you like the listener to feel and experience, when Bestial Mockery is blasting?

Mental mayhem, darkness, abysmal chaos and Satanic fucking metal.

How do you look upon the ongoing "muhammad crisis" and would it make good inspiration for a coming Bestial Mockery album?

Hahaha! No, I don't think so, hehe. I wouldn't mind blaspheming the dirt-prophet on a cover art or in a lyric, but I don't think we'd ever do an entire album devoted to that. But man, are they stupid or what? They even mix up the Danish flag with the Swedish. How hard can it be to see the difference? Red and white or blue and yellow. Maybe they all got sand in their eyes. It's kind of funny though, seeing the entire Arab world showing their stupidity by rising in a frenzy against a few caricatures of their prophet. Don't they have more serious problems? Well, at least they're doing their best to raise understanding of their situation in the democratic west, aren't they? Hahaha!

Will we see you embark on a small European/Scandinavian tour in support of the new album?

As of now, there are no plans for doing that. But haven't got any offers yet, and we'll look into every opportunity that comes up. A European mini-tour would be nice, but a Scandinavian one is highly unlikely if you ask me. There are too few organizers here and too few venues, but who knows? We're up for doing gigs during the years and we'll look into that.

"Gospel Of The Insane" is your second album on Osmose Productions, how well did the first "Evoke The Desecrator" do?

I actually don't know. Decent I suppose, but I haven't really looked into it. I believe it did pretty good for the circumstances. It was released along with a lot of other Osmose releases, so it didn't exactly stand out, and there are a few things we could have done better production-wise. But being the first release of an underground band on Osmose I personally think it did pretty well.

The new album is a tad more raw and eerie than "Evoke The Desecrator", how and why did it end up like that?

First because better recording circumstances were available. We had more time, the studio was better etc. Secondly 'cause we wanted it rawer and were able to influence the end result to a higher extent than before. We were very firm in how we wanted everything to sound and the way it came out was the way we wanted it.

What do you expect of the future for Bestial Mockery and what can your fans look forward to?

For the immediate future we'll record 5-6 new songs to end up on a couple of split releases which you will be able to read about on our website soon if nowhere else. Then we hope to do some gigs, do another split release and eventually start to work on the next album. Nothing special in the works really.

Thanks a lot for answering my questions, if you have something to add, feel free to add it now!

Thanx for the interview. Everyone interested should keep their eyes open for new releases and shit. There's always something brewing for Bestial Mockery, haha! Fuck cunt metal!
