Legion Of The Damned

Legion Of The Damned
Legion Of The Damned is the band that ressurrected when legendary Occult was put in the grave. Legion Of The Damned is more thrash-oriented than Occult was, and kicks as much ass, that is for sure. They are right now ready with their first album "Malevolent Rapture" released by Massacre Records, a really solid album you should give a spin if you're into old school thrash, very recommendable from here! I had a little chat with guitarist Richard Ebisch, who didn't talk that much, short and to the point answers one could say.
My name is Richard, I'm the guitarist of Legion Of The Damned.
A small introduction of the rest of the band will be great as well, together with a bit about what they contribute to the band with!
Maurice is our vocalist, Eric our drummer and Twan is our bassist.
You are now ready with your first release "Malevolent Rapture", how do you feel about it?
I'm excited about it and we crave for more!
What do you expect from it?
Hopefully this album opens up for us to be able to do some festivals and tours.
When you started out to write/compose new material, what did you then want to accomplish with it?
To make an excellent and aggressive album!
Do you feel that you have accomplished that?
Definitely!
Where do you find inspiration when you write music?
By listening to old bands I really like such as old Pestilence, Destruction, Kreator and… Slayer!!!
Is there anything specific that have influenced the writing process to the new album?
No, I can be really short of that!!
Can you mention 3 bands and 3 songs that have meant the world to your way of writing music?
Slayer, Destruction and Pestilence. The songs are 'Under The Guillotine' by Kreator, 'Chemotherapy' by Pestilence and 'Antichrist' by Destruction.
What do you want to bring the world with your music and how do you want people to receive your music?
We want people to appreciate our music and it's good that they can unload their aggression at gigs.
Will you initiate us in the lyrical universe of the band, which themes do you touch etc…?
We sing about different themes such as war, serial killers and historical events.
Where is the inspiration for the lyrics usually found?
In books and documentaries. As well as some of the lyrics have a personal touch.
Will you pick out your 3 favourite tracks from the new release and guide us through the music and lyrics, and tell us how you got the idea for the music and lyrics, etc…?
'Legion Of The Damned', which is about war. 'Demon Fist', which is good example of old-school thrash lyrics and 'Into The Eye Of The Storm' talks about people who have become alienated in this world with all the consequences.
How important is the lyrics compared to the music?
They are equally important in my eyes
Do you have any touring planned in support of your new release?
Yes, we'll be on the No Mercy tour in April this year, together with Cannibal Corpse, Kataklysm and more.
How do you look upon the future of the band?
We are very positive! We have never had so much support from a label before, we can play at many summer festivals, which is an excellent opportunity for us to reach as many people as we possibly can.
Will you share your 5 all time favourite albums with our readers?
Slayer - Reign In Blood
Morbid Angel - Altars Of Madness
Pestilence - Maleus Malificarum
Vader - De Profundis
Kreator - Pleasure To Kill
Thanks a ton for answering my questions, if you have anything to add, feel free to add it now!
Thanks for this interview and hope to see you at one of our gigs!
