The Norwegian band Chain Collector has gotten quite some attention since the band was formed, though a band consisting of people like Anders Kobro, Kjetil Nordhus and Gøran Bomann should create a fuzz, and it certainly has! The band released their debut album "The Masquerade" last year, and I got in touch with main-songwriter Gøran and had a little chat.

Hi there, will you please start off by introducing yourself?

Hello, my name is Gøran Bomann and i do the guitar for Chain Collector, I also play guitar in Carpathian Forest and does session for Trail Of Tears!

A small introduction of the rest of the band will be great as well, together with a bit about what they contribute to the band with!

Well we can start up with A. Kobro (drums) he has done many albums for among others Green Carnation, In The Woods, Carpathian Forest etc… the list goes just goes on, haha) Kjetil Nordhus (vocals) is the singer of Green Carnation and he does the clean vocals for Trail Of Tears as well! Svenn Aksel Henriksen (screaming vocals) is originally from the Norwegian band Apostasy where he played guitar and did vocals, he also did the keys for Dismal Euphony! As a session member we had Endre Kirkesola (producer from the Dub Studio) to do the bass for us! Kjella (guitar) has another band from Kristiandsand called Neon God!

You are soon ready with your new release, how do you feel about it?

Well I'm finally glad we are getting it out, we had a lot of delays due to different situations, so we are very exited and ready to get the show on the road!

What do you expect from it?

Well it's our first album so I'm just hoping that the promotion campaign can get people's attention, so we can spread our music!

When you started out to write/compose new material, what did you then want to accomplish with it?

I have played black metal most of my time so I wanted to create something different, something that I hadn't done before, so I felt an urge to make something fast, groovy and catchy!

Do you feel that you have accomplished that?

I think that the album has all that stuff and a hell of allot more! Some songs are really intense with strong choruses with an upbeat, some are more into a raw beat and some with groovy parts with soft melodies. So I think the mixture of the album is good!

Where do you find inspiration when you write music?

Well I think you get inspired by almost everything, it don't have to come from a song that you just heard or something like that, suddenly you just got it you know! You feel that the song you just wrote, became the way you wanted it to be!

Is there anything specific that have influenced the writing process to the new album?

I really like the early Swedish metal scene such as At The Gates, so I think you can say that I like the thrash metal with strong melodies. That is what I wanted to create and I'm happy with the result of it!

Can you mention 3 bands that have meant the world to your way of writing music?

Immortal, At The Gates and Emperor

What do you want to bring the world with your music and how do you want people to receive your music?

Well I just want to create good music and hopefully people enjoy what I write!

Will you initiate us in the lyrical universe of the band, which themes do you touch etc…?

Well on this album we had two outsiders to do the lyrics for us, Mie Storbekken Lindstad (the lyrics on the demo) and Johan Leonardsen. But I had some suggestions that I wanted him to write about, such as a murder's and serial killers' minds and what goes inside their head when they are committing their sins. About how fucked up the world is! He also came up with many strong subjects, how to be addicted to general stuff, how the society works, fucked up governments and stuff like that! In generally we take up subjects that are interesting and facts of life for us!

Will you pick out your 3 favourite tracks from the new release and guide us through the music and lyrics, and tell us how you got the idea for the music and lyrics, etc…?

I think that 'Harvester' is number one in my book, it has the rawness and the powerful chorus, I just feel that this song has this special thing over it! 'Neverwhere' is an upbeat kind of song where the riffs are groovy and with kind of a pop chorus (don't know what to call it exactly, you decide) and finally I have to say that 'Crucifixion' is a favourite, this song took me a while to write, so you can hear the ups and down part in the song and that was written in what kind of mood I was in! The lyrics from Mie also fit it perfectly, in the way the song turned out!

How important is the lyrics compared to the music?

Well the lyrics are of course very important, but since I'm not very good in writing lyrics I leave that job to some one who can do it! So for my part the music comes first!

Do you have any touring planned in support of your new release?

Well we hope to do live shows and do tours, so we just have to see what comes!

How do you look upon the future of the band?

Well I'm looking forward to be hitting the road as often as we can and built ourselves a name in the music business and I'm looking forward to more albums!

Will you share your 5 all time favourite albums with our readers?

Dødheimsgard - Satanic Art
Immortal - Damned In Black
In Flames - Reroute To Remain
Death - Human
Emperor - Ix Equilibrium

Thanks a ton for answering my questions, if you have anything to add, feel free to add it now!

Thanx man! Hope to see you metalheads out there on the road and be sure to check out our album! See ya!
