CreoZoth

Lars in action for Candlemass
This rather new band CreoZoth lead by Candlemass lead-guitarist Lars Johansson is ready with their self titled debut album on Escapi Music. A good and well balanced heavy metal album with the good old deeds and some sheer energy, I hooked up with Lars to get all the information about the band I could and answers to what drives his passion for heavy metal.
Well I am Lars Johansson lead guitarist in Candlemass, and also the axe-man in CreoZoth. I keep up the metal interest with a lot of listening to all kinds of music…
A small introduction of the rest of the band will be great as well a bit about what they contribute to CreoZoth with!
There is Jan Lindh the drummer of Candlemass, Torbjorn Moen - bass (Oz and Redfun) Michael Storch - vocals (Malmsteen, X-plode)... They bring their personality into my riffs, and therefore making it better…
How and when did the ideas of CreoZoth start and when was the band realized?
Kind of 4 years ago, but Jan and me have always been jamming together in between the gaps of the Candlemass agenda, so I was looking around for a while and found Michael and Torbjorn…
The bandname you have chosen, is a bit tricky, if not weird, the promo-material mentions several meanings of it, which of the meanings did you have in the back of your head when you choose the name and what does it mean to you?
It was the Monty Python movie to begin with, but as you said, beside of being a man who eats until he explodes, it is also a flower that lives in the dessert, and a deadly poison that killed many railway workers a long time ago… So I just did some adjustments with the spelling and voila...
You are right now ready with your debut album "CreoZoth", how has the album been received?
Really well I must say...
What do you expect from the album?
Just to give people some cool metal to check out and hopefully, go for…
What would you like to accomplish with your music and the band as such?
Just play loud and give people something to think about.
Classic heavy metal with balls and energy, how did you end up playing like that?
A difficult thing to answer, it is just me, and the way I identifies myself in the music I'm playing, and an urge to not to repeat myself or anyone else too much..
What inspires you when you write music?
A lot of things, a rhythm in nature or in a factory, some mean riffs I've heard in my head and try to play them backwards, things like that.
Have there been any specific events or happenings, or anything else that has inspired some of the music on the album?
No not really, the lyrics is just a reflection of what I felt right that moment, inspired of the news on TV or other things in life you might consider…
Can you mention 3 songs and 3 bands that have meant a lot to you and to your way of thinking/writing/playing music?
'Mississippi Queen' by Mountain, 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath' by Black Sabbath and 'Yayoo Gack' by Steve Vai.
On the album, which 3 tracks are your faves and why?
It is difficult to choose, but I think I'll go for 'Forsaken', 'Watch N' Wait' and 'Bad Day'. I don’t know why, they are just really heavy I think…
How far do you want to take CreoZoth?
Try to do some festivals and check out people's reaction, make another album and so forth…
Will it be an active touring band and such?
It depends on the response.
The great vocals are delivered by Michael Storck, how did you end up with him and what do you like about his vocals?
I was looking really hard you know, but it took me a year or two to find the right spirit, and I think he is doing fine.
Which topics do the lyrics touch?
Just thoughts in my head delivered by the news, the things we are doing to mother nature, injustice in different locations and breathing moments for you to think about…
Where is the inspiration for the lyrics found?
I think a heavy riff on the guitar needs a little more than just a catchy chorus line, so why not write about things that concerns you in life.
The album is produced by you, a pretty good job, how do you yourself think about the production?
It is produced together with a skillful sound engineer, otherwise this music would not sound as heavy as it does, sometimes I need a little update on what's going on sound-wise you know.
Are you producing other bands as well?
No... Maybe I should give that a try as well…
What do you find important with an album production, what do you want to highlight etc…?
The sound of the drums is the most important, and a good job with the mastering as well.
What can we, the fans, expect from CreoZoth in the future?
Hopefully some gigs at festivals or so, and another album later on.
How do you look upon the future of CreoZoth and how much time do you expect to get to the band, in between Candlemass?
We will se what the future holds... And there will be no "double booking" in between the bands anyway. There will be enough time to schedule that out later.
