Anubis Gate

Morten Sørensen in action
Anubis Gate the Danish powerhouse and one of the most prominent makers of symphonic and progressive power metal released their second and amazing album "A Perfect Forever". After I had sent the questions to the band, their singer Torben Askholm left the band, due to health problems and the band delivered 3 good concerts, with Henrik Fevre singing. Drummer Morten Sørensen answered the questions.
Hi , I'm Morten Sørensen, drummer in Anubis Gate.
A small introduction of the rest of the band will be great as well, together with a bit about what they contribute to the band with!
Jesper M. Jensen - Guitar and riffmaster, Kim Olesen - Guitar/synth and riffmaster, Henrik Fevre-bass/vocals and vocal arrangement master.
You are soon ready with your new release, how do you feel about it?
"A Perfect Forever", has been out for a couple of months now and of course we are very happy about it since we feel this album is a big step in the right direction-song and soundwise!
What do you expect from it?
Hopefully it will spread the name and give us a larger audience, the reviews so far have been very cool!
When you started out to write/compose new material, what did you then want to accomplish with it?
We wanted to show both ourselves and our listeners that we could do better overall, not that I think our debut was bad ,I still love it, but it was important for us to get a step further….
Do you feel that you have accomplished that?
Indeed, very much so, just listen to both albums and you'll know what I mean. The songs are more convincing and complex - still we kept our dark and mystical heavy sound, which is very important for us.
Where do you find inspiration when you write music?
Since we're all "very old" metal fans, our inspiration simply is inside us! Of course we listen to a lot of music, but it all comes from deep down inside ourselves!
Is there anything specific that have influenced the writing process to the new album?
Not really I guess, we just reflects on things happening around us, something we read or see (lyrical-wise)
Can you mention 3 bands and 3 songs that have meant the world to your way of writing music/singing?
Van Halen – 'Mean Street', my very first heavyrock song, I was 11 years old and was completely blown away by Eddie's insane guitar intro!
Metallica - 'The Four Horsemen', wow I just felt they were shredding those strings!
Queensrÿche – 'Queen Of The Reich', and high-pitched vocals was the thing for me.
So if you play those three songs at the same time, Anubis Gate will appear!
What do you want to bring the world with your music and how do you want people to receive your music?
I just want to share my view on metal, and if someone else likes what they hear, then I'm happy!
Will you initiate us in the lyrical universe of the band, which themes do you touch etc…?
As mentioned we reflects on things happening around us, but still our lyrics deals with fighting our inner demons and horror stories we see or read about!
Will you pick out your 3 favourite tracks from the new release and guide us through the music and lyrics, and tell us how you got the idea for the music and lyrics, etc…?
That's really hard since my favourite tracks change all the time, haha… but one of the real interesting stories you'll find is 'Epitome Of Delusion', which is a true story about a family father who can't tell his family they are broke, and ends up killing them all… a very scary story! The music has got all the different feelings I like – it's both heavy and powerful but also beautiful and majestic!
How important is the lyrics compared to the music?
I think a good song with a good story/message is just as important as the music.
Do you have any touring planned in support of your new release?
We've just performed three shows, which went pretty fine, but a real tour isn't planned yet, let's see how everything turns out!
How do you look upon the future of the band?
Hopefully we'll have world domination… If everything turns out right, we'll release a 3rd album at some point, we love playing and writing songs and our chemistry is perfect!
Will you share your 5 all time favourite albums with our readers?
That's not really fair since there's been so many great bands with important albums but I'll give it a try (I probably want to change it tomorrow)
Queensrÿche - Rage For Order
Crimson Glory - Transcendence
Iron Maiden - Somewhere In Time
Metallica - Master Of Puppets
Yngwie Malmsteen - Marching Out
Thanks a ton for answering my questions, if you have anything to add, feel free to add it now!
Thank you so very much for your support, and sorry for the lateness of my reply (it's been a madhouse) cheers!
