Future Is Tomorrow – Fit To Die (Part 1) [Self-released 2009]

This Italien band has been around since 2003, though this, their first full length release, is my first encounter with Future Is Tomorrow, though if they have been delivering their music as well-played and -written as the material on this album, I'd also like to check out their earlier material.

Many bands in Italy seems to be into this light progressive power metal style, with a lot of melodies and grand arrangements, and Future Is Tomorrow do not differ from that. Though where many bands fail, either by sounding too much alike or by focusing too much on the instrumental and technically side of handling the instruments, this band seems to have found the right dose of it all.

The instrumentation is nice and varied, there are some good riffs, nice melodies and good rhythm patters. When the keyboard is used, it has a role and adds to the atmosphere. The vocals are quite good, melodic and nicely phrased for the bigger part of the album, though I miss a little more sheer power and self esteem, it is like it is being hold back a little too often. I really like the 3 or 4 times, the growl appears, it works really well. The focus from the band is on the songs, they've written some catchy tunes with a good flow to them. The music gets easily stuck in the mind and stays there.

'Fit To Die' is one of the best, if not the best album I've heard within this genre , so far this year. The band has all features I like and their focus is on some flowing and catchy songs, which I find extremely important, and Future Is Tomorrow does show that such music can be made, without being boring and ordinary all the way through. Though I miss some intensity in the presentation once in a while, and often the band becomes to comfortable with a riff or a moment, and uses it a bit too much, instead of progressing a step further. All stuff that can be worked out easily and things that usually comes when bands become better and more confident in writing and performing their music.
