Ars Macabra – Hate Induced Trance [
Sinister Sounds Inc. 2007]

A new attack from the Italian black metal force Ars Macabra is right now haunting my CD player, and have been doing that for a little while, some hauntings aren't that easy to get rid of.
'Hate Induced Trance' kicks off with a blast, after the traditional synth intro, that doesn't seem to want to die among some black metal hordes. The music is fast, blazing and melodic at most times. The tunes are well-written, a good mix between very fast parts and slower dark atmospheric pieces, without it ever loses brutality or momentum. Keeping the momentum going is something Ars Macabra is good at, and when they first get their claws into you, they don't let go, until the album is done.
Ars Macabra is not the most original band around, though they deliver some rock solid black metal, especially inspired by the early melodic Nordic scene, not a bad thing at all. They weave their atmospheric and pretty good melodic work well into the base riffs and blistering rhythm-section and on top of that, a screaming rasp from hell. I dig the vocals, that are dubbed for an extra dose of evil and darkness, it works really good.
I've been listening a good deal to this album from Ars Macabra and I'm sure most black metal heads into fast melodic black metal will dig it as well. The band goes back and hits some of the good old atmosphere, there almost only could be found in Sweden, up during the 90ties. They aren't spot on yet, but getting there. One of the better recent black metal releases, if you find such nostalgic as I, and some good songs that stirs the mind up and contains a lot of elements waved greatly into each other.
