Destruktor – Nailed [Hells Headbangers Records 2009]

It's about 5 years ago I got into the Australian head banging force Destruktor, it was when I was send their mcd 'Nuclear Storm' to review, dang, that was metal for demons and me. I was taken away to another state of mind while listening to their thrashing tunes of war. We are now writing the year 2009 and the Australian horde is about to release their first full length album, 14 years after the band was conceived.

The first thing that strikes when listening to the album the first time, is that the band has laid off some of the thrashiness for a more brutal and straight ahead death metal style. Don't get me wrong, we are still getting a solid dose of thrashing riffs and some good head bangers here and there, but damn things have overall gotten brutal and evil. The brutal riffs are churning away, supported by the thunder force drumming, topped by the insanely aggressive and frantic growl.

Mixed into the dark and brutal world of death and thrash Destruktor once in a while also displays a flair for black metal, there were traces on 'Nuclear Storm', though that was in a more grim and primitive manner, where as it is more incorporated and atmospheric on 'Nailed', just check out the track 'Endless Reign Of Terror', great cold atmosphere and cold and dark riffs. Glenn, the mainman, has really developed into to a solid and quite refined songwriter, displaying all his skills on this album.

I wouldn't say I had forgotten about Destruktor, though I didn't expect the band to release such a whole debut album as 'Nailed', it is worked thoroughly through and doesn't have many flaws, great dark brutal death metal with thrashiness, the great cold and atmospheric feel from black metal here and there and sheer power and intensity and on top of that, well played and produced, Destruktor anno 2009 is the full package of real metal!
