Communic
Mar 20, 2005
by Anders
After a couple of listens to Communic’s debut I was hooked on the melodic thrashy progressive metal that flowed out of my speakers. So it wasn’t hard to decide that I was positive regarding the offer to interview guitarist and mastermind Oddleif Stensland.
Cattle Decapitation
Aug 7, 2005
by Anders
Yet another "oldie" has been dug up, this time an interview from last year with Cattle Decapitation. I got in the world of Cattle Decapitation when I first heard their previous album "To Serve Man". Great grindcore infested death metal with quite some elements. The American band are now ready with their 2nd album on Metal Blade "humaure", and in that connection I hooked up with vocalist Travis Ryan and asked him some questions. [Please note this interview was conducted on the 6th July 2004]
Circus Maximus

by Anders
There seems to come a lot of really talented bands out of Scandinavia in these years. The take on progressive melodic power metal is fabolous and a lot of the bands from uphere get their well-deserved credit. One of the new and exciting bands within this genre is Circus Maximus hailing from Norway. They are ready with their debut full lenght "The 1st Chapter", which recently was released by Frontier Records in Europe and Sensory Records in North America. I hooked up with drummer Truls Haugen and we had a great talk. Going through all from the songwriting process, to his inspirational sources and a great song by song walk through.
Criterion
Aug 3, 2005
by Anders
It is always a nice surprise when you play a debut album by a fairly unknown band, and the album kicks ass and stand out from the mass. That was what happened when I popped Criterion's debut album "The Dominant" in my CD player. Heavy and dark death metal with a technical touch and an approach that they can call their own. Seldomly a band catches on to me like this, so I had to get in touch with these Norwegians to find out what it all was about. I got hold of guitarist and songwriter Kim Nybakken.
Centinex
Aug 13, 2005
by Anders
The Swedish death metal squadron Centinex has been making a lot of noise for many years now. The band was formed back in 1900 and has so far 8 full lenght albums, a couple of mini albums and some EPs behind them. Even though the releases has become stronger and stronger, peaking with the new album "World Declension", the band has never really gotten the deserved break through in the death metal world. Though the horde of vocalist Johan Jansson, guitarists Jonas Kjellgren and Johan Ahlberg, bassist Martin Schulman and drummer Ronnie Bergenståhl should now be ready to make people turn their heads. I hooked up with Martin Schulman to talk abit about the new album and the band and music in general.
Construcdead

by Anders
Another band which recently has caught my attention is the Swedish technical thrashers Construcdead. Their new album "The Grand Machinery" is a good album, with some hard hitting material. I hooked up with guitarist/backing vocalist Rickard Dahlberg to talk about the new album and the band in general, session vocalist Jens Broman (The Defaced and Hatelight) sneaked in to answer a couple of the questions as well.
Castrum
Oct 19, 2005
by Anders
When I first heard Castrum, I was quite surprised. Blasting well-composed brutal yet melodic death metal, with diversity and a good punch. This was their 2002 album "Mysterious Yet Unwearied" which I heard the first time earlier this year, but the album was as mindblowing and good that I had to take contact to the band and set up an interview. I also knew the band was working at full speed with a new album, so I hoped to lure some good news from them, and I surely did. I talked to main-songwriter, vocalist and guitairst Cornelius Kontros and he openly answered my questions, both about the band's members, older records, the coming album and the Ukranian metal scene.
Criminal

by Anders
Vocalist/guitarist Anton Reisenegger of the Chilean band Criminal (which now are residing in Europe) is an old rat in the metal scene. He started the legendary Pentagram (CL) in 1985, and released very little material by the band, but it all reached legendary status. Then the band Fllout in 1989 and in 1991 he formed Criminal, which still is going strong. The band has just released its 6th full length album "Sicario" a straigth forward and hardhitting thrash record, with some influences from death metal. I hooked up with Anton and got a lot of information on the new album, their last album "No Gods, No Masters" which was a bit experimental, he went through the new album and tells a bit about each song and so forth... Read on and check out the band.
Canopy
Nov 30, 2005
by Anders
Canopy, a Swedish death metal band, approaching the style in a different way than the most. There are heavy and brutal parts, and the low from hell growls are present too. Though as the bandname might suggest, there is a deeper side to it, many atmospheric parts, melancholy, and lyrics with a message and insight. Death metal for thinkers, one might add, though the music can be enjoyed straight out as well. The band has so far released 2 demos and are right now hard at work on the upcoming debut full length, which are going to be released with or without a label. In the interview you'll get some song titles and the album title, and a hint of what there is to look forward to. I had a good chat with vocalist Fredrik Huldtgren and guitarist Jonatan Hedlin did also chip in a couple of times.
CreoZoth
Dec 21, 2005
by Anders
This rather new band CreoZoth lead by Candlemass lead-guitarist Lars Johansson is ready with their self titled debut album on Escapi Music. A good and well balanced heavy metal album with the good old deeds and some sheer energy, I hooked up with Lars to get all the information about the band I could and answers to what drives his passion for heavy metal.
Clawfinger
Jan 7, 2006
by Anders
Who doesn't remember the smash hits from the midnineties 'Nigger' and 'Do What I Say' from swedish band Clawfinger, a highly effective hybrid of hardhitting metal and thrash. I lost interest in the band after their album from 1995 "Use Your Brain", I found their following album a tad boring, and was at the time exploring other sides of the metal world and eventually forgot all about them. In the end of last year, the band returned to my speakers, with their new album "Hate Yourself With Style", which are released by Nuclear Blast. A furious and very direct album, with a Zak Tell in the shape if his live, delivering spiteful and thoughtful lyrics, straight in the face of the listener, a very good album to be honest! I hooked up with Zak Tell who answered all my curious questions with a very good result.
Chain Collector
Jan 21, 2006
by Anders
The Norwegian band Chain Collector has gotten quite some attention since the band was formed, though a band consisting of people like Anders Kobro, Kjetil Nordhus and Gøran Bomann should create a fuzz, and it certainly has! The band released their debut album "The Masquerade" last year, and I got in touch with main-songwriter Gøran and had a little chat.
Cretin
Jun 5, 2006
by Anders
Cretin, an old horde, back to haunt us! The band was formed back in 1992, but it is first now in 1996 that the band is ready with their first full length album, due to a couple of the members have been busy with among other things Exhumed. Though now their debut full lenght "Freakery" is here to haunt, with a good slab of grindcore, the way it was delivered in the mid-80ties, a good deal of dirty punk and just as much raw death metal, turning into the crossover of times, grindcore. If someone says Repulsion out loud while the 3 guys in Cretin are hearing it, I guess they'll be very flattered! I got a good chat with bassist Matt Widener of the band about their influences and how they ended up sounding as they do, and a bit about what to expect of them in the future...
Calabrese
Jul 25, 2006
by AvNatten
In the stark Arizona heat a band called Calabrese has emerged from the desert. Fusing punk, rock, and a good dose of spookiness makes their songs best enjoyable on the darkest of nights. I had an interesting chat about the band, what inspires them most, and ghost hunting with brothers in blood Bobby and Jimmy Calabrese and they let us take a trip into their world of horror.
Coldseed
Jul 25, 2006
by Anders
Coldseed a new band with its base in Germany, but besides 4 Germans, a swede and a spaniard have joined the force that makes up Coldseed. The band delivers a crossover of older and more classic metal deeds with modern and straight ahead metal, a quite fascinating blend. I hooked up with the one German without a record in Blind Guardian, the great guitarist Thorsten Praest who gladly answered all my curious questions.
