Runemagick
Feb 13, 2005
by Stigma (previous writer)
Runemagick are out with their 8th studio album entitled "Envenom". Some of the Scandinavianmetal.info crew were greatly impressed by this release (me included) and I just had to contact Nicklas to get him to answer some questions for us. The reason why I like Envenom more than other Runemagick albums is because I think it is more doomy than other Runemagick albums....

Ryan van Poederooyen is an well-respected musician from Vancouver, Canada. He started out getting a name with his band God Awakens Petrified. Once Gene Hoglan (Strapping Young Lad, Death, Testament, Dark Angel) decided to stop drumming on Devin Townsend’s solo albums, he introduced Ryan to Devin. And since then he’s been the the permanent skinsman for the Devin Townsend Band. I had an interview with Ryan through mail. He was kind enough to take the time and answer all of my questions, read them here below.
Redemption

Redemption is a rather new progressive metal band. They released their selftitled debut album in 2002, that album got a lot of positive press and attention, among other things for featuring vocalists Rick Mythiasin and Ray Alder and drummer Jason Rullo. After the first album, which merely was a project mainman and songwriter Nik van Dyk decided to make thr band a real recording and touring band and joined forces with Ray Alder, Bernie Versailess, Chris Quirarte and James Sherwood. They released the second Redemption album "The Fullness Of Time" earlier this year, and that album was as interesting that I had to get in touch with Nik van Dyk and ask him a hell of a lot of questions.
Riverside

Riverside comes from Poland. They released their debut full length album "Out Of Myself" back in 2003 and they're now ready with their second effort "Second Life Syndrome". The band delivers progressive rock infused with a cool 70's feel, delivered by the keyboard. Many solos and powerful metal moments are incorporated in the music as well, and they also paint a huge landscape with wonderful atmospherically parts. Here's an interview with the vacalist and bassist Mariusz Duda, so we can get more knowledge about this interesting and impressive band.
Requiem

My first encounter with the Swiss death metal squadron Requiem was when I heard their new album "Government Denies Knowledge" late last year. A ripping and powerful album, it doesn't offer much new, but is delivered very well and convincing, and doesn't show any mercy at all. Just like we like our death metal! I got in touch with the bass player Ralf from Requiem, and got him to initiate us into the world of the band.
Red Circuit

A new progressive force has risen, this time from Germany. Red Circuit is the child of Markus Teske, which many of you know for his production skills. Though he does also know how to write, arrange and play music. Red Circuit consists of known and lesser known names as Chity Sompala, Frank Bodenheimer, Tommy Schmitt, Oliver Noerdlinger and of course Teske, and on top of that the album is guested by Stephan Lill, Stephan Forte and Patrick Rondat. I got in touch with Markus and got answers to all my curious questions.
Wuthering Heights

Before receiving Wuthering Heights new album "Far From The Madding Crowd". I had heard some tracks from their 2 first offerings, though they didn't make me pick up the albums. But after the first listen to the new album, my breath had disappeared, the grandiose symphonic power metal, with elements from progressive metal and folk music, was incredible, a perfect blend of catchy metal and astonishing technique. I hooked up with mainman Erik Ravn and interrogated him about his band.
Prototype

When I earlier this year heard the album "Trinity" with the LA based outfit Prototype, was I pretty much blown away. Their superb blend of melodic power metal, heavy and ass kicking thrash and loads of progressive elements, is a killer! After some time with the album, I hooked up with guitarist Kragen Lum from the band and got a great talk!
Impaled Nazarene

I have been somewhat disappointed over the latest Impaled Nazarene releases, where has all the madness from the first 3 albums gone? I got their new album "All That You Fear" and had eventually to listen to it, and wauw, it blew me away. The good ol' Impaled Nazarene mixed with some of the new stuff and it fucking worked. I soon got an interview with mainman Mika Luttinen arranged, though it was the legendary monster bazzooka player Arc v 666 who answered my questions.
